- If you’re spending time outdoors in the summer, know the signs of Lyme disease. A red circular rash on your skin, and flu-like symptoms such as tiredness, headaches and muscle or joint pain can be early symptoms.
- Lyme disease is spread by ticks and can be a serious condition if not treated early. If you find one on your body, remove the whole tick carefully and as soon as possible. If you get a red circular rash on your skin, or develop flu-like symptoms visit your GP.
- Removing ticks as soon as possible is the best way to prevent Lyme disease. You can use a pair of fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal card to remove it carefully and safely.
- To avoid tick bites when spending time outdoors, stick to footpaths where possible, cover up bare skin with trousers and long sleeves, and use insect repellent on exposed skin.
