Carers Information Service

Unpaid carers provide care and support to family members, friends and neighbours. The people they care for may be affected by disability, physical or mental ill-health, frailty or substance issues.

Anybody can become a carer at any time in their life and sometimes for more than one person at a time. Carers can be any age from young children to very elderly people. A carer does not need to be living with the person they care for to be entitled to support in their caring role.
Unpaid carers may not yet see themselves as a carer or associate with the term “carer”. They see themselves as a daughter, brother, mother, friend or neighbour. Carers are all of these but don’t always ask for the help they’re entitled to. If you care, who cares for you?

Glasgow City Carers Partnership, consisting of HSCP Carers Teams and local third sector Carers Centres, provides support to carers. This can include:
• Information and advice
• Emotional support
• Training and peer support
• Advice about finances/benefits
• Short breaks
• Carer health reviews
• Support with planning for the future
• Having a voice

To make a referral for support, please see the Your Support Your Way Glasgow website https://www.yoursupportglasgow.org/carers

This website has lots of information relevant to carers and an online referral form.

There is also a Carers Information Line 📞0141 353 6504 or email info@glasgowcarersinformation.org.uk, which takes phone referrals and provides information and support. Referrals can be made by the carer or by someone on their behalf, as long as the carer is agreeable to being referred.
